Autumn, Through a Mother’s Eyes

Image
Special Issue • September 2025: Letters in Autumn (Part 1 of 4) Dear Autumn, Whenever you arrive with your soft breeze and golden skies, I feel a sense of calm. You remind me that life moves in seasons, that nothing stays the same forever. And maybe that is why I feel so close to you now, because my life as a mother feels like it has shifted into its own  autumn. I still remember the early years, when my children were small and everything felt like spring, new, fragile, and blooming all at once. Those mornings are noisy and full of life, like the first buds pushing through the soil. I remember the mess, shoes by the floor, toys scattered on the floor, lunchboxes that I tried to fill with love even when I was too tired to stand. I waited by the window in the afternoons, just to catch a glimpse of their faces running home to me. And at night, I sat beside them doing their homework, I barely understood, pretending I wasn’t just as exhausted as they were. It was chaos, but it wa...

Myth of the Perfect Mother

Image
I used to measure my worth in lunches packed, laundry folded, and whether my child’s shoes were tied neatly before school. Each unchecked box felt like evidence that I was failing, proof that other mothers were somehow doing it better, cleaner, with more patience. The weight of it followed me everywhere: to the grocery store, to the office, to bed at night. Guilt became my shadow. No one warns you that  motherhood  can feel like a stage play with an invisible audience. You imagine the neighbors, the teachers, the strangers at the park, all silently keeping score. You learn to rehearse a smile when exhaustion creeps in, to hide the frustration when your toddler spills juice again, to act as if you’ve got it under control. But beneath the script is a question that gnaws:  what if I am not enough? And when I really trace that question back, I can see where it began. I grew up watching women in my family; my mother, my grandmother, perform a kind of  invisible lab...

From Overwhelmed to Empowered: The Working Mom’s Survival Guide

Image
Being a mom is one of the hardest, most beautiful, and absolutely chaotic jobs in the world. You’re raising tiny humans, shaping their future, and pouring your heart into them every single day. And if that wasn’t enough, you’re also managing a career, a household, friendships, and (somewhere in there) trying to take care of yourself. It’s a lot.  Finding a balance between work and motherhood isn’t about perfection; it’s about making it work in a way that doesn’t leave you drained. And yes, it takes some strategy, support, and a lot of grace. Here are a few ways to help you navigate this beautifully messy season of life. Talk to your employer If you’re a  working mom , communication is everything. It’s okay to ask for what you need. Maybe that’s flexible hours, remote work options, or simply understanding that you might need to step out for a school event or doctor’s appointment. The key is open, honest conversations. Most workplaces are becoming more understanding about...

Motherhood & Mental Health: The Dark Side No One Prepares You For

Image
Motherhood  is often painted as a beautiful, life-changing experience—and it absolutely is. But let’s be real: it’s also one of the most demanding, emotional, and exhausting journeys a woman can take. For first-time moms, especially, the excitement and joy of bringing a baby into the world are often accompanied by moments of doubt, exhaustion, and emotional ups and downs no one truly prepares you for. From the moment you see those two pink lines, your body begins an incredible transformation. Your hormones fluctuate, your body stretches and aches in ways you never thought possible, and your emotions can swing from sheer happiness to overwhelming anxiety. After childbirth, the “bounce back” everyone talks about doesn’t exactly happen instantaneously. Rather, it’s more of a slow, uncertain crawl.  On top of healing from delivery, you’re thrown into sleepless nights, endless feedings, and the deep responsibility of caring for this tiny human who depends on you for everythi...

The Woman Inside Every Mother

Image
Motherhood may change everything, but it shouldn’t erase you. A heart-to-heart on staying connected to your identity, passions, and peace while raising a family in a world that keeps asking for more. My mom didn’t plan to be a single mother in her 40s, just two months after giving birth to my youngest sister. No woman does.  But life doesn’t wait for your permission to change. Sometimes, it just drops the plot twist like a TV show you weren’t ready to binge-watch. I was 14. Old enough to understand when things shifted, but too young to process the gravity of it all. My dad—who had been the pillar of our home, the financial engine, the man with all the answers—died. And just like that, our family flipped inside out. My mom, who’d built her life around him, became the captain of a ship in the middle of a storm she didn’t ask to sail. And let me tell you… she had no map, no compass—just a newborn in her arms and two kids watching her every move.  She was born to be someone...

A Love Letter to Mothers of All Kinds

Image
No one warns you how invisible  motherhood  can feel. You give everything including your sleep, your body, your future plans and still, the world often forgets the woman behind the child. Motherhood is often packaged as flowers and brunches, but the truth lives in the unnoticed moments: the way you stay up, show up, and break down quietly when no one’s looking. To mother is to give in ways that aren’t always applauded, but still matter. And maybe it’s time we looked deeper past biology, past roles, and honored everyone who has carried the weight of love, even when it wasn’t theirs to carry. Redefining Motherhood We often picture a mother as someone who gives birth, raises children, and builds a family around that bond. It’s the classic image many of us grew up with—nurturing, ever-present, biologically tied. But that’s only one thread in a much larger story. Motherhood, in reality, takes many shapes. Some women will never become mothers in the traditional sense. Their p...

What If You’ve Been Missing This Clue About Your Child All Along?

Image
Parenting can sometimes feel like fumbling in the dark, trying every best practice, every rule, only to find that what works for one  child  leaves another in tears. What if the missing piece isn’t about how you parent but about who you are parenting? Child personality, according to the  American Academy of Pediatrics , is the foundation for how kids process the world: how they think, feel, and relate to others. When you tune in to your child’s unique personality style, parenting becomes less about control and more about connection, a bridge to help them grow into who they truly are. Why Understanding Child Personality Matters Personality is more than preferences. It is the pattern of traits shaping your child’s worldview. According to research from the  Harvard Child Development Center , some children are wired for quiet reflection, while others are born to lead the conversation. Neither is “better” but they do need different forms of guidance tailored to the...
